Comprehensive, Free Training

Bring your commitment and we’ll handle the rest. SVFC provides all training at no cost, including:

  • In-house and county-level classes.
  • State-certified fire and EMS courses.
  • Regional and national conferences.

We’ll help you gain the skills and confidence you need to serve safely and effectively.

Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP)

  • We honor dedication through Maryland’s Length of Service Award Program, which provides a monthly financial benefit after 20 years of continuous active service; a well-deserved reward upon reaching retirement age.

Flexible Membership Options

  • We understand that everyone’s schedule and strengths are different.
    That’s why we offer flexible membership types, allowing you to focus on what you do best, whether that’s firefighting, EMS, administration, or support services.
  • Our members come from all walks of life, both locally and from across the region, drawn by our family atmosphere and shared mission.

Uniforms, Apparel & Incentive Programs

Show your Sudlersville pride!

  • After a short period of active service, members receive a personalized navy-blue duty uniform with name and rank. Additional apparel is available through our cost-share program. We also recognize participation in training, shifts, and community events through various incentive programs throughout the year.

Social Events & Recognition

We work hard and we celebrate together. Each January, SVFC hosts its Annual Awards Banquet, honoring our members’ dedication and achievements, including:

  • Firefighter of the Year
  • EMS Provider of the Year
  • Rookie of the Year
  • Volunteer and Administrative Members of the Year
  • And many more

Throughout the year, we enjoy conventions, parades, family picnics, and fun fundraisers. Members also organize trips, from baseball games to NYC firehouse tours, that strengthen our bond beyond emergency response.

College Scholarships

  • Educational opportunities are available through the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (MSFA).
  • Each year, the MSFA Scholarship Committee awards grants or loans to students pursuing studies in fire science, EMS, or related fields.

Protective Gear (PPE)

Your safety is our priority.

  • SVFC provides members with the latest NFPA-compliant protective equipment, including turnout gear, boots, gloves, Nomex hood, and helmet. Members may also purchase a traditional leather helmet featuring their name, rank, and company number.

Additional Member Benefits

SVFC members are also eligible for various programs, including:

  • Wills for Heroes (free legal assistance for first responders)

  • First-Time Homebuyer programs for emergency service volunteers
