Benefits of being a Member
Thank you for looking into becoming a member. There are so many benefits to becoming part of the Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Company family, here are just a few …
A Second Family & Lifelong Friendships
At the Sudlersville Vol. Fire Co., you’ll find a second family waiting for you. On duty and off, the members of the Company share a common bond to serve their community. Lifelong friendships have been formed in our organization for more then 75+ years … if you’re looking to serve in an organization where you feel rewarded in more ways than one, the Sudlersville Vol. Fire Co. offers this and so much more.
Quality Training
You provide the commitment and we provide all of the training for FREE. From in-house, local and county training, to state certified courses, and regional and national seminars and conferences – we offer you the opportunity to explore every avenue of emergency services and train you to be the best at what you do.
Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP)
This program rewards our volunteers’ years of service with a financial benefit after 20 years of continuous active duty. This monthly stipend will come in handy upon reaching retirement age.
Flexible Memberships
As firm believers in the concept that volunteers should be “good at a few things instead of poor at a lot,” – we offer the most flexible membership opportunities available. You can join Sudlersville Vol. Fire Co. to just perform a specialized function or you can get involved in all of the volunteering opportunities we have to offer. Our members come from our community and throughout the region thanks to our robust offering of response services and family & friends atmosphere. To learn more about the various SVFC Memberships stop by and ask any of our Members
Duty Uniforms, Apparel & Incentive Programs
Look professional and show your Sudlersville pride in your navy blue station uniform personalized with your name and rank. Uniforms and normal duty wear are provided after a minimum length of service. Other apparel is offered under a reduced or shared cost program. We also provide other incentives for duty shift participation, training completion and more.
Social Events
Members and their guest enjoy our annual awards and recognition banquet held each January to recognize the past year’s accomplishments of the Company and our volunteers, and to celebrate the dedication of our newly elected administrative and operations officers. We also honor the accomplishments of our members over the past year including recognition for Member of the Year, Firefighter of the Year, Rookie of the Year, EMS Provider of the Year, Auxiliary Member of the Year, Administrative Member of the Year, and more.
Throughout the year we offer a variety of opportunities for you and your family to get to know the other members of your Company in a relaxing atmosphere. From conventions to parades, parties, family picnic and fun fund-raisers – we not only work hard – we play hard too!
The SVFC hosts many member and alumni activities, including this trip to Baseball games. Several Members have taken trips to NYC to tour fire stations.
Workout Equipment and Gymnasium
Free to all our members, the SVFC has the best workout facility in Sudlersville and perhaps the Northern County. In addition to the equipment we have a Zumba program two nights a week and a gymnasium at our annex building the former Sudlersville Middle School. We hold monthly “open gym” nights where we invite other fire company members to join us.
College Scholarships
The MSFA Scholarship Committee shall by June 1 of each year, in cooperation with scholarship committees of appropriate universities, colleges, academies or other institutions of higher learning within Maryland determine to provide or deny grants or loans to new applicants or continuing students. The Committee shall in proper cases award, to the extent funds are available, such grant or loan to an eligible applicant or student participating in a course related to fire or health services including, but not limited to, fire sciences or emergency medical services. Details are available at www.msfa.org.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
We protect our firefighters with the latest technology in fire resistive coat, pants, leather boots, gloves, Nomex hood and helmet. You may also purchase a traditional leather helmet complete with a leather front proudly identifying your name, rank and Company identification number.
Cool Web Site
Our site: www.svfc6.com was one of the first Fire Company web sites online in the County and continues to be among the most popular individual station sites in the State.
Peace of Mind
We recognize that firefighting and providing emergency services is an inherently dangerous business. That’s why we take extra measures to protect our volunteers. Comprehensive insurance programs paid for by the fire company and offered through the county, state and Federal government provide financial security to you and your family should you be injured or fatally wounded in the line of duty. There are even free programs and services in place to ensure that your claim is handled properly and that you receive the benefits you deserve. We care about your health, safety and well being.. And, in times of need, programs are available to provide critical incident stress debriefings and counseling to help our volunteers deal with the emotional impact of the tragedies we’re unfortunately exposed to in our line of work. This service is provided free-of-charge.
