:: A Little About Us

The Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Company provides Fire/Rescue/EMS service to approximately 62 Square miles of Queen Anne's County, Maryland. This land is mostly rural in nature. The town of Sudlersville, Maryland is 7 miles from the Delaware State line. Our station has 2 buildings which are connected through a breezeway. The older section, which faces Route 313, has 2 single bays and 2 double bays. The new building, which is in the rear, has 3 double bays, with exits on either side of the building. Our membership consists of 65 dedicated men and women who pride themselves in being an all volunteer organization and protecting the area in which they live. SVFC runs approximately 225 Fire and 300 EMS calls a year, although every year those numbers are rising. The company is under the direction of Chief Malcolm Faust and President Bill Faust. The EMS division provides BLS/ALS service to the areas in which we serve. The EMS division is under command of Captain Janice Davis. They respond with a 1996 Lifeline "Highliner" on a Freightliner FL60 chassis and a 2005 Lifeline "Highliner" on a Freightliner M2 chassis.

Our Fire fleet consists of: 2 Class "A" Engines, 1 Truck Company (Quint), One Heavy Rescue, One Tanker, One Brush Unit, 2 Ambulances, a Chiefs vehicle, and utility vehicle. Engine 61 is a 1985 FMC 1250 GPM pumper. Brush 6 is a 1986 Ford F-350 Brush unit with a 300 gallon tank. Tanker 6 is a 1986/2000 Ford which holds 3000 gallons. Rescue 6 is a 1995 Freightliner. Engine 64 is a 1997 HME/Smeal 1250 GPM pumper with 1000 gallon tank and 20 gallon Foam Tank. This unit also has a hydraulic ladder rack. Quint 6 is our newest unit. It is a 2002 Emergency One HP75, 75' Sidestacker Quint. It is the only ladder company in the northern part of the county, and one of only 4 in Queen Anne's County.

Our response area consists of residential, industrial and agricultural settings. In our response area we have Delmarva Sash and Door, located in Barclay, Southern States, Harbor Sales, and numerous locations with farm and other heavy equipment. We also cover portions of US Route 301 - a heavily traveled highway connecting Delaware/New Jersey with Washington DC, 3 educational institutions, assisted living centers, and many homes and small businesses. We also provide fire and EMS protection to the town of Barclay, MD located 2 miles south of Sudlersville, off of Route 302. Our diverse population, rise in traffic flow, and steady rise of population makes Sudlersville one of the leading contenders for growth in the next few years.

Our response area is broken down into "Box Areas", or geographical areas given numbers to have a better understanding of the location of a call. They are also used to set up apparatus responses for certain calls in the CAD system. The numbers in Box areas in Queen Anne's County are set up as (Company Number), in our case - 6, and then the number of the specific box. Our box areas are numbered 1-12, indicating we have 12 different box areas. In certain cases, for Boxes 6-11 and 6-12, we do not Respond First-Due to any call. In the 6-11 box, Marydel Fire Company is first due on all Fire and EMS responses; due to the fact that they are closer. The same is with box 6-12; Millington Fire Company responds first due to all calls, because they are the closest fire company to the box. These boxes are only given a Queen Anne's box number because it is in Queen Anne's County. Click the picture on the right for photo of our box locations.

We are alerted through pagers that each member carries with them. A set of "Tones" are broadcasted from our Emergency Operations Center in Centreville, to "trip" the pagers. Also used are the whistles located on top of the firehouse, in the center of town, and in Barclay. These whistles will soon be used again for Civil Emergencies, to warn residents of possible disasters of any type.
